ULTRABeam®
Meet ULTRABEAM
Targeted Light Therapy. Ten-Minute Sessions.
ULTRABEAM brings wearable LED light therapy to Veterans at home. Body-specific wraps deliver blue, red, and near-infrared light with topical heating for temporary relief of minor muscle and joint pain, stiffness, and muscle spasms.

How It Works
Fit. Start. Finish in Ten Minutes.
ULTRABEAM pairs a wrap shaped for your treatment area with a removable magnetic battery/controller. Each treatment runs for ten minutes and ends automatically.
Step 1Fit Your Wrap
Position the prescribed wrap over your treatment area using the setup instructions supplied with your device. Options include shoulder, neck, back, knee, and hand/wrist.
Step 2Start Your Session
Attach the magnetic battery/controller and start treatment. The wrap delivers three wavelengths of LED light during the programmed ten-minute cycle.
Step 3Automated Shut Off
The controller shuts off automatically at the end of the session. The manufacturer's guidance allows up to three sessions per day, with a recommended two-hour rest between sessions.

Use Cases
Muscle & Joint Conditions Studied With Light Therapy
Low-level light therapy has been investigated for several common sources of musculoskeletal pain, both on its own and alongside rehabilitation.
Knee Osteoarthritis: Studies have evaluated light therapy for osteoarthritis-related knee pain and difficulty with daily movement. Reviews report potential symptom benefits, with treatment dose and protocol influencing results.
Stausholm et al., 2019: 22 placebo-controlled trials, 1,063 participants. Oliveira et al., 2024: 10 trials, 542 participants
Shoulder Tendon Pain: Research includes shoulder tendinopathy and subacromial impingement, with studies examining pain relief and function, including when light therapy is combined with exercise.
Haslerud et al., 2015 shoulder-tendinopathy review; Cidral-Filho et al., 2024 shoulder/neck review, 36 studies.
Neck & Myofascial Pain: Light therapy has been studied for neck pain and myofascial pain—discomfort associated with sensitive areas in muscle—with research assessing changes in pain and disability.
Chow et al., 2009 meta-analysis: 16 trials, 820 participants; Cidral-Filho et al., 2024 review.
Exercise-Related Muscle Soreness: Studies in active adults and athletes have explored light therapy around exercise, including its effects on muscle soreness, strength, and recovery after physical exertion.
Luo et al., 2022: 24 studies in athletes.
Clinical Evidence
The Science Behind Light Therapy
Low-level light therapy, also called photobiomodulation or LLLT, has been studied for its effects on cellular activity, inflammation, soft-tissue repair, and muscle recovery. Wavelength, light output, and treatment duration influence those effects.
ULTRABEAM wraps use blue 450 nm, red 650 nm, and near-infrared 950 nm LEDs. Specific details below.
Shoulder
LED Count: 80
Reported Total Irradiance: 31.65 mW/cm²
Reported Energy Density per 10 Minutes: ≈18.99 J/cm²

Supporting Research for LED Light Therapy
LED Light Therapy: Mechanisms & Applications
A review by Kim and Calderhead discusses LED phototherapy research on tissue repair, inflammation, and pain. It emphasizes that wavelength, power density, and energy density matter when evaluating treatment.

Muscle Performance & Soreness Recovery
A meta-analysis of 24 studies reported benefits for selected muscle-performance and soreness outcomes in athletes.

Safety Profile
Contraindications include light-sensitive skin or medications that cause light sensitivity, treatment over cancerous lesions, direct eye exposure, pregnancy—especially abdominal application—treatment over the thyroid gland, and areas of active infection.
