PainShield®

Meet PainShield®

Ultrasound Therapy for Pain Relief

PainShield® delivers continuous therapeutic ultrasound directly to the source of pain — wearable, night-safe, and designed for at-home use.

A PainShield device connected to a tablet and a patch placed on a person's back for pain relief treatment.

If you’re already using PainShield®, you can access the PainShield Portal here.

How It Works

Continuous Therapy, Without the Complexity

PainShield® uses low-intensity localized ultrasound to deliver continuous therapeutic treatment directly to the source of pain — no buttons, no interruptions, no limitations on daily activity.

Step 1

Apply

Attach the adhesive patch to the target area. The compact smart controller connects directly — nothing to carry or manage separately.

Step 2

Treat

Therapeutic ultrasound delivers continuously to the treatment site during daily activity. The battery supports 6.5 hours of therapy per session.

Step 3

Rest

Night-safe design means therapy continues while you sleep, adding an overnight window for accelerated results.

Availability Notice: PainShield® is available from Delta Medical Group exclusively through the VA, VA Community Care (VACDOC), or Community Care providers, by order from a prescribing clinician. Not available for direct purchase or resale.

Use Cases

Built for the Pain Veterans Know

Effective across a range of chronic and post-injury conditions — each with a measurable outcome.

  • Chronic Joint Pain: Knee and shoulder conditions: tendonitis, adhesive capsulitis, arthritis, impingement, and meniscus injuries.

  • Post-Surgical Recovery: Post-op pain and healing support for shoulder, knee, elbow, and hand procedures. Safe over orthopedic hardware, no supervision required.

  • Musculoskeletal Conditions: Cervical and lumbar: herniated disc, spondylosis, sciatica, and whiplash. Foot and ankle: plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis, and ischemic feet.

  • Nerve-Related Pain: Peripheral neuropathy, trigeminal neuralgia, carpal tunnel, trigger finger, ulnar nerve dysfunction, and diabetic neuropathy.

Clinical Evidence

Results Grounded in Evidence

PainShield's protocol is supported by peer-reviewed clinical research and demonstrated biological effects at the cellular level.

  • Increases local blood circulation and promotes tissue oxygenation at the treatment site.

  • Accelerates soft tissue healing through angiogenesis and fibroblast proliferation.

  • Reduces localized pain and inflammation without systemic medication.

  • Delivers therapeutic effect at low, safe energy levels with no risk of thermal injury.

Supporting Evidence

Peer-Reviewed Study: Trigeminal Neuralgia

A double-blind RCT of 59 subjects reported a 55% reduction in pain scores and a 46% decrease in breakthrough opioid use after 30 days of PainShield therapy. No adverse events were recorded. Download the full study.

Clinical Case Series: Tendonitis

Three chronic tendon tear cases showed MRI-confirmed near-complete resolution with PainShield. Patients reported up to 80% pain reduction. One patient was fully pain-free within three weeks. Download the full study.

Safety Profile

Low-intensity SAW energy eliminates thermal injury risk. No significant contraindications for standard prescribed use. Suitable for patients with implanted orthopedic hardware in many cases.
